Meet Tim Welsh: 

Tim is a 1989 Graduate of Gettysburg College with a BA in Health and Physical Education.  He is a nationally Certified Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Additionally, he us the Strength and Conditioning coach for the baseball and football teams at Shawnee High School and has coached and trained athletes at all levels from the youth programs to NCAA Division 1 elite athletes.

Boot Camp

Boot Camp sessions are 60 minute group training sessions designed to raise your metabolism, burn fat, build strength, endurance, and flexibility all in a fun and energetic social atmosphere. Studies have shown that those who train as a part of a group have a higher success rate when it comes to reaching fitness goals and developing a consistent, healthy and fit lifestyle.

We utilize a metabolic training style of exercise to give our boot campers a functional, strong core base of fitness while continuing to challenge their body’s neuromuscular systems to keep them on the road to being in the best shape of their lives. Programs change regularly in order to keep things fresh and challenging while still being able to see progress and improvements.

Our Boot Camps are led by certified health and fitness professionals with national certifications. All exercises are led in an effective but safe manner and can easily be modified for any fitness level. Personal Training

Our fitness facility is conveniently located in Medford in the Taunton Forge Shopping Center.  The Breakthru Physical Therapy and Fitness Mission is to optimize the health and wellness of our community by creating a personalized pathway from rehabilitation to fitness.  We strive to make fitness fun, and WE GET RESULTS.  Each client is unique and given the individual attention and personal expertise needed to progress toward their fitness goals safely and efficiently.

All of our fitness experts maintain certification accredited through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and remain up-to-date with the current trends in health and wellness.

 

Our certified personal trainers will take you through an extensive one-hour consultation to establish individual goals and needs.  During that consultation they will take you through a functional movement screen (FMS).  The FMS is a screening tool that we use to identify limitations and/or asymmetries in seven fundamental movement patterns that are crucial to functional movement quality.  Observing these patterns allows our team of specialists to create the appropriate plan of corrective exercises to fill your needs, and serves as the foundation for a personalized fitness program.

Balance

We use standardized measurement tools to assess your current balance level and then apply best practice treatments which incorporate Tai Chi, balance exercises, unstable surface training, dynamic movement, and motor learning. Training for the ability to recover balance and base of support from any sort of postural sway following a destabilizing cause.  Balance training helps: increase hip, knee, and ankle joint stabilization, increase body proprioception and awareness, improve coordination and reaction time

Running

Breakthru offers a comprehensive, personal, evidence-based running evaluation and treatment for runners of all levels.  Whether you are new to running, or trying to qualify for your next marathon, let us help you get to your finish line without pain.  We offer FREE running injury screens.

Golf/Titleist Performance Institute (TPI)

We perform a biomechanical analysis based on golf-specific movements and a video analysis to detect swing faults that could be contributing to impairments in accuracy or distance.  The treatment is based on the finding of the examination with focus on addressing biomechanical faults that will prevent the golfer from being able to create an efficient swing.  Our team is led by TPI Certified Instructors.

If you have any doubts whether personal training is worth it, I’m here to give a resounding “YES – DO IT!”  I am a church choir director, which requires many hours on my feet, either teaching music, rehearsing music or moving tables, chairs and heavy cases of handbell equipment.  It’s not all performing and applause!  These hours have taken a toll on my legs and knees, since my church building is on a concrete slab.  The sanctuary has a slate floor.  Both of these surfaces are unforgiving.  Even after a one hour rehearsal, I had to limp out of the building and take pain killers once I got home. I am also NOT a couch potato!  I’ve been exercising faithfully for the past 11 years, the last 3 of which at Breakthru.  I was spending more and more time at the gym, but felt like I was not really making any forward progress.  I knew I needed more – but what??  About a year ago, I started with a personal trainer – at first only one day per week and then moving to 2 days per week.   I was amazed that after my first session, I felt better – because my trainer showed me additional stretches to do each day.  We built a relationship, we discussed my goals, and my trainer devised an exercise plan to meet those goals. Have I made progress??  Oh yes!   I’ve slimmed down, my balance is better and I am stronger overall. My “AHA” moment, though, is that I just spent an entire week teaching Vacation Bible School.  I spent 5 days and 2 evenings at the church, on my feet for 4 to 5 hours at a time, keeping up with a wonderful group of 5th and 6th graders.  Of course, I was tired at the end of each day, but my legs did not ache and I was not limping around.  My suggestion is that no matter how unfit – or fit – you may be, personal training is definitely worth a try.  You will make progress toward your general life goals and feel better because of the time and energy spent.

Eight months ago I started working out at Breakthru, through the urging of my boss. While initially, it was a challenge getting started, I’ve learned to embrace it and look forward to working out weekly. I owe my zest for working out to my Trainer Chris Horigan who has guided me on my journey. He’s very supportive, knowledgeable about his craft and very calculative in how he has challanged me to push the limits of my physical capabilities. I’ve lost roughly about 15 pounds and have considerably toned my upper body beyond my expectations. My endurance has improved considerably as well. The biggest improvement that I’ve seen is in my golf game. I am hitting the ball 20-30 yards longer off the tee and hitting my irons 10-15 yards longer as well. The combination of the strength and core training is paying dividends. I get complimented by people all the time on my newly found fitness. At 58 years old I feel as energetic as I’ve been in many years and look forward to continuing on the journey into the future. Jim Johnston, President of the Johnston Insurance Group, won the silver medal in the senior division by competing in the bench press, squat, and deadlift.  His final lift was in the deadlift competition, lifting 254 lbs. and winning the silver medal.  Jim trains at the Breakthru Phyiscal Therapy +Fitness with his trainer Steve.
