My interest in physical therapy began at a young age. I was a very competitive swimmer growing up, though I had significant scoliosis.

Exercises recommended by my PT helped me to stay strong for swimming and improve my posture while I was in a brace to help manage my scoliosis, and I was amazed at how much better I felt! Ever since I knew this was the career for me!

I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings throughout my career and clinical affiliations. I have enjoyed working in the outpatient setting the most, as I get to watch my patients grow and improve over time. I have a special interest in pediatrics, and I have experience working with children with orthopedic and neurologic diagnoses between the ages of birth and 21.

I love having an active job and empowering my patients through exercise. I also love getting to know all of my patients and making their exercise sessions relevant to their activities and functions outside of PT.

My surgeon recommended Breakthru Physical Therapy after repairing my severely damaged left shoulder. Dr. Kennedy at Breakthru’s Marlton location worked with me for months to strengthen my left shoulder and bicep. In a word, Kennedy was awesome. After having a total shoulder / rotor cuff repair back in July I didn’t think I’d ever get back to normal. I was in bad shape. After discussing with my Dr the best path forward and visiting several Physical Therapy centers I decided on Breakthrough in Marlton. Kennedy was my physical therapist. At first it was a slow start. I had pain couldn’t see the end was ready to quit. Kennedy wouldn’t let me quit (trust the process) She was amazing, her brilliance, coaching, patient demeanor and PT techniques got me back on track. Need a baby sitter while doing PT? Don’t fret! Awesome place with awesome staff! Dr. DJ, Wendy and the gang LOVE keeping my 6.5 month old baby entertained and even put her to sleep while I’m doing my PT! That’s some amazing service right there! Not to mention how chill and low key everything is. Tim and the Breakthru Physical Therapy team at Mt Laurel, helped me return to sport after my injury. In less than one year following my achilles tendon rupture, I was able to complete a half-Ironman distance triathlon! Tim is an expert in sports rehab and uses the latest rehab protocols to get athletes and clients back to sport and life with minimal discomfort. I torn my bicep tendon & waited 3 months before the repair. The bicep had significant muscle atrophy. Breakthru is an outstanding PT facility, Tim S. and his team used advanced & extensive technologies to shorten recovery from the torn bicep & frightening muscle atrophy. They put together a comprehensive rehab program involving bands, stretch, weights, recum bikes, soft tissue & scar message and blood flow restriction (BFR) therapy. In 5 weeks I progressed from being extremely weak with a bicep. My bicep was 1.5 inches smaller since the injury with limited range of motion. Five weeks later my arm has full function and I can easily curling 25lb dumbells. BFR under the direction of a PT really allowed muscle growth with much lighter weight. I joined a large support group with similar injuries and it appears no one has recovered as quickly as me. Tim's program & the Breakthru facility with certified BFR & deep scar tissue therapies accelerated my recovery by 6 months.

After surviving 24 years of Law Enforcement without a significant injury, I suffered a complete patella tendon tear at work just 6 months away from retirement. I laid in the hospital devastated with the thought of not walking out of the police station in the same manner that I walked in as a rookie. Only after surgery, unable to put any weight on my leg, did I realize what an uphill battle I had ahead of me. I had never needed physical therapy before and did not know what to expect, but I did know that I wanted to recover faster than the surgeon predicted. When I met Rebecca for the first time and told her of my hope, she completely supported me. She would proceed to push me when I needed pushed, motivate me on my bad days and pull me back in when I tried to do too much. As I learned to walk again, she gave me confidence despite my fear of re-agitating the injury. Now, as I am jogging and preparing to be cleared by the surgeon to return to full duty, I am in awe of what she accomplished. Beyond her technical skills as a physical therapist, it was her genuine empathy and compassion that truly set her apart. I started Schroth therapy last November after years of being self-conscious about my scoliosis. After my consultation with Kevin I was immediately put at ease by his expertise and easy going personality. You can tell he really loves what he does and he knows his stuff! She was able to help me find a routine that helps manage my chronic pain, and even printed it out for me so I could continue at home easily. She was able to adjust many things based on where I had pain so one thing didn’t aggravate another. She never judged me or shamed me for my tardiness (I’m just ashamed of myself lol). We were referred to Breakthru after our 13 year old daughter had a major knee surgery. She was fairly nervous about the entire process but that changed with the first visit. Her therapist, Mark, was quick to put her mind at ease and while getting her right into a routine she was able to do and actually seemed excited about. After just a couple weeks, she was showing off how much more she could bend her knee and doing many of the exercises on her own.The facility is very clean and with a good amount of equipment to tap into. Shannon pushed me appropriately and designed a program unique to my goals of returning to competing in the sport I love.
